A Scientific Perspective on Weight Loss

The ideas and concepts behind weight loss are varying in depth and in content. Some may seem inspiring and motivational, as if it ignites a spark of hope to dieters who initially thought and believe that weight loss is an almost impossible pursuit. Indeed, there are many facets to be considered where weight loss concerns are raised. One of the focal points that should ideally be focused and given much emphasis is the scientific perspective towards weight loss. For those who are keen on facts and scientific evidence, you might try to consider this pursuit as it mainly delves on scientific method towards weight loss. According to studies, there is scientific evidence that points to the close association between weight-related dilemmas and bacteria. There are two different types of bacteria that can be found in your digestive system bacteroidetes and firmicutes. These organisms perform several functions and one of these is the extraction of calories from the food you eat. Scientists are trying to find the reason why some people have a stronger tendency to gain weight than others and one possibility they are trying to explore has to do with the type of bacteria that is predominant in the digestive system.

Studies were done recently on mice and humans. The results from these studies showed that those with more fimicutes in their digestive tracts extracted significantly more calories from the same amount of food than those with more bacteroidetes. What this means is that if two different people with more or less the same weight ate the same amount of a certain food, the one with more firmicutes in his or her gut would consume more calories.

In one study, twelve obese people followed a fixed predetermined diet for twelve months and their individual progress was tracked by researchers throughout this period. Before they started on the diet, their gut bacteria levels primarily consisted of firmicutes. As they lost more weight however, it was noticed that changes in bacterial levels also took place, with bacteroids increasing in concentration just like those of leaner people. This study and others like it are leading researchers to look into other theories about weight loss and dieting which deviate from the conventional.

Strenuous dieting through the help of fad diets can be one of the options of those people who seriously want to pursue weight loss.  Through these diet programs, a dieter might lose weight temporarily, but then, the danger sets in when the effect of the fad diet wears off and the person who is on the said fad diet would have to face health consequences because of too little amount of a particular food type in his or her diet, which brings on malnutrition and deficiencies of some sort.  Or, there is also a distinct possibility of the dieter to have a slow metabolism as a result of the wrong diet.   This just shows hat
there are many weight loss pursuits that are being pushed through by dieters who want to keep off obesity. Some try dieting and exercise routines as part of their weight loss regimen while others resort to more drastic measures such as weight loss products and weight loss surgeries. It is a claming and pleasing thing to know that many other alternatives are open and that if we just consider other options such as those that are backed up by science, we will begin to realize that weight loss is just within our reach.
